Most tours will offer transportation to and from most hotels in the area, if your hotel is not on the list please let us know, an extra fee may be required if your place is a little out of the way.
Monteverde is the perfect destination for nature and adventure tours, you can go on easy or strenuous hikes to several of the natural reserves, sightseeing on the hanging bridges or natural gardens (hummingbirds, butterflies, orchids), visit the animal exhibits or be part of activities that will bring up the adrenaline such as zip line, waterfall rappelling, horseback riding and much more!
All type of families will have a great time in the cloud forest! Some adventures have restrictions, for example there is a needed height and minimum weight required for some ziplines, the equipment needs to fit properly to avoid any inconveniences. There is not really a maximum weight since the cables can hold up tons but the maximum waist measure should be 46” or 117cm and each leg should be of no more than 26.3” or 67 cm and the minimum height is 120 cms. For all other adventures pretty much everybody is allowed, the standard minimum age will be 7 years and if needed the kids can be accompanied by an adult or the guide in order to finish the adventures successfully such as in horseback riding, ATV’s, waterfall rappelling and others.
Just make sure you are healthy, most hikes are slowed paced and easy to walk so everyone from small kids to seniors can do them, for some adventures a little adventure spirit is required, just make sure you will enjoy as much as possible of fun activities in the cloud forest.
Monteverde given its location in the highlands tends to be sometimes cloudy and rainy, it doesn’t rain all day though, it’s usually in the afternoons which makes it ideal for morning activities. Tours don’t get cancelled due to rain, except there is a rough rain or weather on the sight, in which case only the tour companies will cancel or try to reschedule the activity, if hardly ever happens but in this case we make sure to contact you first.
It varies from company to company but to be sure that you can get a refund it is recommend to give a notice at least 8 hours before.
Comfortable, closed shoes or sneakers will be good, depending on the activity the shoes may get muddy and wet, so make sure you bring some extra shoes as well. As far as clothes, t-shirts, shorts and tank tops will work. Make sure you bring a mosquito repellent and sunscreen and a raincoat in case of a rainshower.
That is up to you, having memories is great, although if you bring any artefacts will be under your supervision and a waterproof case may be required. For some adventures hands free is required in which case a GoPro will be the best option.
