Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve: This is the park where most visitors will not miss,it is more exuberant given that it has the most primary forest, it also offers a trail with a fantastic hanging bridge from where you will able to get a better look of the forest and can’t forget to mention that it also offers due its altitude the Continental Divide from where you will have a panoramic view of the Atlantic, Pacific and highlands.

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve: This Reserve has the highest altitude of them all and although is not as visited as the other reserves it is a unique place to explore, it gives a perspective of a much denser and deeper forest, is also quieter and a fantastic spot to listen to the tireless sounds of the forests.

Curi-Cancha Cloud Forest Reserve: This place is very liked by visitors since it offers more open spaces which allows to have higher changes to spot wildlife and hard to see birds, it offers a combination of primary and secondary forests as well as pasture fields, varying the ecosystems makes wildlife more visible. You can also enjoy the natural gardens and hummingbird spots.

Curi Cancha is also known as a Bird Watchers Paradise because it offers easier trails to see and hear them! This is a smaller reserve compared to others in the area but offers a wide variety of nature and don't worry about the trails being crowded the reserve has a policy of a maximum of 50 people at one time at the park which makes it even more appealing, less people means higher changes to spot wildlife.

The Curi Cancha Reserve is one of the newest known reserves of Costa Rica, its history is quite interesting since a great part of it today (about 50%), used to be pasture territory, the Lowther family who owned the property since the 1970’s invested their care and time into making it grow to the forest we can admire today and be part of the other 50% which was virgin forest and still remains.

Comfortable, closed hiking shoes or sneakers will be good, keep in mind that your shoes may get muddy and wet, so make sure you bring some extra shoes as well. As far as clothes, t-shirts, shorts, long pants and tank tops will work. Make sure you bring a mosquito repellent and sunscreen and a raincoat in case of a rainshower.
Most tours will offer transportation to and from most hotels in the area, if your hotel is not on the list please let us know, an extra fee may be required if your place is a little out of the way.

Monteverde is the perfect destination for nature hiking tours, you can go on easy or strenuous hikes to several of the natural reserves, sightseeing on the hanging bridges or natural gardens (hummingbirds, butterflies, orchids), visit the animal exhibits and be able to enjoy of the unique nature that can only be found in our cloud forest reserves. We offer a little for all tastes, from a short, slowed paced hike of about 2.5-3 hours up to a full day experience. What are you up to?
Absolutely! Tell us your kids ages and we can advise you to go to the places that best fit your families needs. There are reserves with a higher level of hiking, some with longer or shorter trails, higher or lower altitude, easier to spot birds and animals and many more options. Monteverde given its location in the highlands tends to be sometimes cloudy and rainy, it doesn’t rain all day though, it’s usually in the afternoons which makes it ideal for morning activities. Tours don’t get cancelled due to rain, except there is a rough rain or weather on the sight, in which case only the tour companies will cancel or try to reschedule the activity, if hardly ever happens but in this case we make sure to contact you first.
It varies from company to company but to be sure that you can get a refund it is recommend to give a notice at least 48 hours before.
Sure! In the cloud forest you can take unique and amazing pictures, but if you bring any artefacts will be under your supervision and a waterproof case may be required.
